The Art of Portraiture

,,,aims to reveal in a relaxed style, something about a person's inner self.
When a person is put at ease, and carefully posed, the portrait inherits a
quality that draws the viewer beyond the surface of the image into the
personality of the person.

This is what I aim to achieve with my client. A portrait that reflects the family, group, couple or individual. Not just a surface image but something that goes beneath the surface. This is achieved when the client puts his trust in me. We then work together to create a priceless memory, an heirloom a treasure.

***Main purpose is to make the faces the dominant area of the portrait.***

Creative Possibilities

We understand that you want a portrait to do more than just hang on a wall or sit on a shelf collecting dust. You want it to attract the attention of friends, relatives and all that happen to view it, now and in the future.

Having your portrait created is a unique and creative undertaking, almost unlike any other in your life.
I will work closely with you to create a portrait that suits your unique style and needs. Whether you prefer formal, casual, traditional classic or contemporary I can recommend the best approach.

Clothing - this is where most mistakes are made. You should stay away from stripes, plaids, checks, polka dots and loud colors. Try to cover up as much skin as possible especially in family and groups. There is a time and place for everything. Remember this: Dark Colors Thin and Light Colors Add weight. Casual Portraits work with Light Colors and are usually photographed against a Light Background. Formal Portraits work well with Dark Colors and are usually photographed against a dark background.

Harmony - this is what we are trying to achieve. We want to show unity in a family portrait. This is not a time for a personal statement. That can be done in a personal portrait. Formals for the most part have dark clothing in the portrait. Casual portraits for the most part can be light clothing, jeans and light shirts.

Color - When more than one person is in a portrait it is advised to stay away from bright colors such as Red, Yellow, Orange, Hot Pinks, etc. If you are looking for a Contemporary look it is best to discuss this in advance. To create unity in A FAMILY PORTRAIT it is advised to work with the same colors. Colors maybe used in a portrait when there is a theme to it. Example: Valentine's theme the color Red is used.

Hair - Men should have their hair cut at least a week before a session so it does not look like you just had it done. Shave before the session so that you do not have a 5 o'clock shadow. Women do not experiment at this time with new hair styles or colors. You should have this done at least a month before so that you can grow into it. I have found that most portraits that are refused are because of a drastic change in hair styles or color changes. I would be glad to discuss any concerns you may have regarding any of these. I am available for portrait consultations by coming to you and discussing. A Portrait when probably done will outlast your car, funiture and become an heirloom.
